Holy Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world, with the elevation of 8848 meters, has stood in the Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet Autonomous Region, China. As a local Tibet travel agency based in Lhasa, the capital city of TAR, 80% of our clients came to Tibet for visiting Mt. Everest. Usually, travel agencies have no right to arrange a professional climbing to Everest unless they have the peculiar permits. So, the highest place for ordinary people is the Everest Base Camp. However, it’s the past.
New regulations of Everest Base Camp tour:
In the past, travelers could take our vehicle to the Everest Base Camp (the tent area) first. And then trek around 4 kilometers or take an environmental bus to the south, around 5200 meters, where there is a monument that writes 8844.43 meters – the elevation of Mt. Everest. Here is the end of a normal visitor’s Everest Base Camp tour. But now, for protecting the environment of Mt. Everest, the government forbade the eco-bus. Besides, no travelers could visit the Everest Base Camp. The farthest you can reach is Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery on earth. You can wander around it and can’t go upper more.
I know it is kind of bad news for international travelers. The rule might be changed later. Thus, you can have optimistic expectations for the future. To sum up, you can reach 5100 meters above the sea level for now.
