7-day Lhasa Mt. Everest Kathmandu Overland Group Tour

Since the Gyirong border reopened to the public on 29th. August 2017, to enjoy the amazing landscape along with the famous Friendship highway becomes a highlight of Tibet and Nepal overland tours. Today I am going to introduce a very popular tour package — the 7-day Lhasa Mt. Everest Kathmandu Overland Group Tour.


Overview: It’s similar with the 8-day Lhasa Shigatse Everest group tour, which ends in Lhasa while this one ends at Gyirong border. After two days of classic Lhasa city tour, you will head to Mt. Everest via Gyantse and Shigatse. You can have a close contact with the highest mountain in the world. Trek a little bit from Everest Base Camp to the monument. Then drive to Gyirong border along with the Friendship Highway.


Route: Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse – Everest Base Camp – Gyirong – Nepal Border

Day 1. Arrive in Lhasa


Welcome to Tibet! No matter you enter Tibet by train or by air, your Tibet tour guide will come to pick you up from Lhasa railway station or Gonggar Airport. They will wait for you with your nameplate and a greeting Hada, the holy Tibetan scarf full with blessing. Then you will be transferred to the lovely hotel in downtown Lhasa.

Day 2-3. Essential Lhasa sightseeing tour


We usually arrange the first two days to stay in Lhasa. One is for the landmark tourist attractions that worth visiting. Another hand, it’s a good and must time for travelers to adapt for the sudden altitude change. After finishing the daily activities, you could hang out at the famous Barkhor Street, which is a busy walking street. There are many distinctive shops there, you could buy Tibetan souvenirs for your family and friends.


Tourist Attractions: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Barkhor Street

Know Altitude Sickness before You Travel to Tibet


Day 4-5. Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse – Everest Base Camp


So, from Day 4, you will leave Tibet for the highlight of the tour — Everest, the highest mountain on the earth. When you drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, the scenery along the way is very beautiful. You could visit one of the top three holy lakes in Tibet — Yamdrotso. It’s like a turquoise ear-ring painted on the highland. At last, you will arrive at Everest. Besides of Everest, you could also visit Rongbuk Monastery — the monastery with the highest altitude in the world.


Tourist attractions: Lake Yamdrotso, Karola Glacier, Pelkor Chöde Monastery with Gyantse Kumbum, Tashilunpo Monastery, Rongbuk Monastery


Stay overnight in Shigatse, 3 or 4-star hotel, with breakfast

Stay in the nomad tent or Rongbuk Monastery, dorm beds, when on Everest


Day 6-7. Everest – Gyriong Town – Nepal Border


After enjoying the stunning sunrise of golden peak Everest (if the weather permits), you will leave for Gyirong Town, which is a small but well-known town between China and Nepal border. Of course, we drive along with the Friendship Highway. The scenery will not let you down.

Your Tibet tour guide will send you off to the Nepal border in the morning on Day 7 so that you could continue your journey to Kathmandu.

Stay overnight in the guesthouse in Gyirong town, no breakfast
