So, are you ready for an Everest Base Camp tour in 2018? The best time to visit Everest is from late May to June, and late September to October. For a common traveler, I mean, not a professional mountaineer, how to get to Everest Base Camp from Tibet? What kind of documents do foreign travelers need? And how much does it cost usually?
As everyone knows that, foreigners have to apply for Tibet Travel Permit as the first step to open the door to Tibet Autonomous Region. People call this travel permit Tibet Visa as well. It was issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Besides, the Bureau doesn’t accept applications from individual travelers. That’s why foreigners must book a tour from a Tibet tour company, and let the Tibet travel agency get the Tibet Visa for them. It charges USD10 per person, while we will serve our clients for free as long as you engaged with us.
Another permit called “Aliens’ Travel Permit” is required to provide for foreigners visiting Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world. This is relatively easier than Tibet Travel Permit. Because it is issued in Shigatse on the spot and only takes around 30 minutes.
Okay, you could reach Everest Base Camp now with the two permits.
Located in Shigatse Prefecture, the most common two routes to get to Everest Base Camp is as follows.
- Lhasa – Gyantse – Shigatse – Everest Base Camp – Shigatse – Lhasa
- Nepal – Gyirong Border – Tingri – Everest Base Camp – Shigatse – Lhasa
New information should be noted that now you could only arrive at 5100 meters on Everest since last August. For upper, you need a professional climbing certificate. Or you could trek to the Everest Tent Camp Area which is about 4km from the EBC. There was an economic bus to go there but now is forbidden. China government is aiming to protect the environment of Everest.
