The best time to do an Everest Base Camp Trekking tour is from April to October. The chance of 2017 already passed, so, do you get ready for it in 2018?

In my last post, I talked about the time and the way to Everest. Today, let’s figure out what you can expect on an Everest Base Camp Trekking tour in 2018.

Mt. Everest

1. Trip to three Tibetan Monasteries – Tashilhunpo, Rongbuk, and Sakya

In a classic 8-day Lhasa Gyantse Shigatse Mt. Everest Group Tour that most of the Tibet travel agencies offer, Tashilhunpo and Rongbuk are two must-see Tibetan monasteries.

Tashilhunpo Monastery is one of the top four Gelugpa Monasteries in Tibet, and also the biggest monastery in Shigatse Prefecture.

Rongbuk Monastery belongs to the Nyingma Tibetan Buddhism. With an elevation of 5,100 meters (16,733 feet), it is the highest monastery in the world, as well as the best viewing deck of the grand Mt. Everest. You can see nuns and monks in this monastery.

Sakya Monastery is the main monastery of Sakya Tibetan Buddhism. The walls were painted with red, white, and cyan color. That’s why Sakya Buddhism is called “the colorful sect of Buddhism” as well.

2. Admiring the highest mountains in the world

Besides of Mt. Everest (8844.43 meters/29,018 feet), there are some other highest peaks along the Himalayans range that you can appreciate during an Everest tour. For example, Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201 meters/26,907 feet), Mt. Xixabangma (8,012 meters/26,287 feet), Mt. Makalu (8,463 meters/27,766 feet), Mt. Lhotse (8,516 meters/27,940 feet), etc. You will know how small the human-being is when you are in front of these natural miracles in person.

3. Enjoying two holy lakes – Yamdroktso and Peikutso

Yamdroktso Lake – On the way to Mt. Everest, you will see one of the top three holy lakes in Tibet – Yamdroktso. Nobody could see its full face unless from a bird’s-eye view. It lies 130 kilometers from the east to west and 70 kilometers from the south to north. It looks like corals from the sky. So, people also call it “the coral lake” or “the swan lake”.

Peikutso – Covering more than 300 square kilometers, Peikutso is the biggest lake in Shigatse Prefecture. The elevation is 4,590 meters (15,066 feet). There are many wild animals living around the lake, such as Wild Horse, Equus kiang, Crane, Tibetan Antelope, and so on.

4. Discovering a wonderland of Tibet – Gyirong County

In the Tibetan language, “Gyirong” means cozy and happy. According to the local legend, this name was given by Master Padmasambhava. Dated back to A.D. 8 Century, the Tibetan King invited Indian Buddhist Master Padmasambhava to come to Tibet for spreading Buddhism. He was impressed by the scenery when he came to this village. So, he gave the name “Gyirong” to this place before he left for Lhasa the next day.

5. Going to Nepal via Gyirong Port

After you finished the Everest Base Camp Trekking tour, you can continue your trip to Nepal via Gyirong Port, which reopened in 29th. August 2017. You can have a Tibet to Nepal Overland Tour by following the famous Sino-Nepalese Highway, i.e. Friendship Highway.
